1. Looking at the title, what is a major historical event in this time era?

It was the period when was the world war two was happening and Japanese attacked the American’s land name “Hawaii”.

2. What did the grown ups talk about after sending Tomie to bed?

They talked serious about the war. They talked about the enemy bombers, and the draft which meant that all young men would have to get a number from the local draft board, and if their number was called, they’d have to join the army. It’ll be really serious if I’m the father of kids. I have to join the army, but I think I’ll run to my secret room. TㅡT

3. Why does Tomie has to dress warmly in his first day back to school after Christmas vacation? What does Tomie do in his school (related with war)?

They have to wear warm clothes because of the war school must not use too much coals.

Because of that the heater’s temperature will go down, and the classroom will be more colder.

So they wear warm like sweater or Tomie’s zip-up sweater.

They may be feel war more realistic.

4. Why can't Tomie make Valentine Mailbox this year?

Diane and Nancy made the Valentine Mailbox, because Tommie didn’t follow the instrucstion.

5. What did Tomie do in Hartford?

Hartford is the state capital of Connecticut. At Hartford, Tommie went to the children’s department.

It was divided as a young boy and young girls department.

Tommie bought a new pair of knickers, new pair of knee socks that have a diamond pattern, tweed jacket and a sweater vest, tweed cap, brown and white sandle shoes.

6.What does Tomie think about after Blackie was dead?

Tommie and everyone thought that because the plane which was ride by Blackie was shot down.

줄리는 이번주부터 열심히 할거라면서 주말에는 친구생일 파티도 종일 하고

시내구경도 다녀오고 하면서 맘을 가다듬네요. 얼마나 열심히 해주질지...

첫 시험이라 제가 더 긴장되는 것같아요^^

다음주 중간고사인데.... 벨라는 손가락까지 골절이 되었어요.

새끼손가락인데도 오른손이라 글씨쓰기 불편하다고 하네요.

The title name is ‘Why? The War Years’. I think a major historical event in this time era is World War Ⅱ

2. What did the grownups talk about after sending Tomie to bed?

They talked about the enemy bombers, and the draft, which meant that all young men would have to get  a number from the local draft board, and if their number was called, they had to go into the army.

3. Why does Tomie has to dress warmly in his first day back to school after Christmas vacation? What does Tomie do in his school (related with war)?

Because the morning paper says that parents should make sure their children will be dressed extra warm this morning. The schools will be sing less coal while we are at war. So the heat will be lowered and it will be colder in your classrooms

4. Why can't Tomie make Valentine Mailbox this year?

 Tomie did not follow instructions. So Diane and Nancy make the mailbox.

5. What did Tomie do in Hartford?

 Tomie went to the department store. He got a new pair of knickers, a new pair of knee socks that have a diamond pattern on them. He also got a tweed jacket and sweater vest.

 And he went to a restaurant called ‘De Pasquale’s’ and ate lunch

6.What does Tomie think about after Blackie was dead?

 He thought ‘Why did Blackie’s plane get shot down?’ and ‘’Why was Blackie dead?
