The Sun is our nearest star and a big ball of gas, which is made up of 90% hydrogen, 8% heliem and things like iron, carbon, oxygen, nickel.
The main gas, hydrogen, provides all the sun's energy as a result of gas explosions or nuclear reactions in its core.
It takes a hundred thousand years for the energy to reach the sun's surface
whereas it takes only eight minutes for the energy from the sun to reach the Earth.
The sun's core is 5 million degrees Celsius and its surface is 5500 degrees Celsius.
The sun came into being around four and a half billion years ago and is expected to stay for as long again.
But the sun will be a red giant star, which means it will get hotter and make the Earth end up burning up.
What if the sun disappeared?
We wouldn't be alive because we will have no heat and light energy from the sun.
The temparature would drop down 100 degrees below zero and
there would be no food, no animals and surely no human beings.
The gravity of the earth would change.
Besides the magnetic force between the sun and the earth would change and the earth would drift in the space.
I hope the sun will stay stable there as long as possible for our planet.
