¿ä¾à :
There was once a brief moment in history when the human spirit rose above wars. It is the Christmas Truce which happened in World War One, in 1914. And this year marks the centenary. A truce is an unofficial agreement between people to stop fighting, with no winner or loser. At Christmas night in 1914, soldiers from the German trenches began the song, 'Silent Night, Holy Night'. That was the beginning. And soldiers from both trenches stopped fighting, collected bodies and had a rest. Micheal Jurgs, a German historian thinks this happened because the soldiers were all fed up with the war. They were promised they would be at home again, Christmas 1914 and after five months of the World War One, there were already a million dead young people, eighteen, nineteen, twenty years old. And at Christmas night the muddy weather became frosty and cold.
What I think :
It's a tragedy that there are still many battle fields all over the world, even though we went through two World Wars in one century. I hope we can witness the human spirit again in 2015.
