where the wild things are
where the wild things are는 우리나라에서도 시공사에서 "괴물들이 사는 나라"라는 번역으로
In the Night Kitchen은 1971년 Caldecott Honor Book으로 선정되었고, 1970년엔 한스크리스찬 안데르센 상을 받았으며,Where The Wild Things Are(괴물들이 사는 나라)로 Caldecott상을 수상했습니다. Alligators are all around, Animal Family, Kiss for
Little Bear, Outside Over There(문 밖 저 건너), Swine lake(돼지의 호수), Kenny's window(케니의 창문)등 많은 작품이 있습니다.
The night Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind
What is he doing Dayoung?
He hammers nail on the wall in the night.
Poor teddy bear is dangling from a hanger.
He makes a house with a sheet.
He makes so many bad things!
So bad boy!
and another
He is chasing a dog with folk.
It looks so dangerous.
Poor doggy!
his mother called him "wild thing"!
and Max said " I'LL EAT YOU UP"
so he was sent to bed without eating anything.
Do you know why mommy gives him no meals?
No meals are punishment.
What is a penalty for your mischief?
Raising hands.
That very night in Max's room a forest grew
Mommy, is this true?
Yes, of course.
So strange!
and grew-
자라고
Mommy I see a full moon of the window.
Tomorrow is full moon’s day, we call it chusuk’
Yes, you are right!
So many trees are in the room.
and grew until his ceiling hung with vines
and the walls became the world all around
It looks so scared!
and an ocean tumbled by with a private boat for Max
and he sailed off through night and day
What is he doing?
He is sailing by his ship named Max.
and in and out of weeks
and almost over a year
to where the wild things are
Mommy, this wild thing resembles dragon.
Dragon!
Have you ever seen a dragon?
Never!
But sometimes I saw this on the book.
and when he came to the place where the wild things are
they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth
and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws
It looks so scared!
Why don’t you imitate these behaviors?
Shout your voice!
Show your teeth!
Roll your brown eyes!
Show your long nails!
You are a wild thing!
till Max said "BE STILL!"
and tamed them with the magic trick
of staring into all their yellow eyes without blinking once
and they were frightened and called him the most wild thing of all
Mommy, there is a crescent moon in the sky.
Please, let me know all kinds of moon.
Full moon, semi moon and crescent moon.
You are great!
Mommy, do you know magic trick?
I don’t know I am not a magician.
and made him king of all wild things.
"And now'" cried Max, "let the wild rumpus start!"
Mommy, one of the wild things bows to Max!
Because he is a king, he bows to Max.
They really enjoy their rumpus!
Why don’t you try these actions!
Stamp your feet!
Dangling on the branch!
Parade with your brother!
What a great!
"Now stop!" Max said and sent the wild things off to bed
without their supper. And Max the king of all wild things was lonely
and wanted to be where someone loved him best of all.
Then all around from far away across the world
he smelled good things to eat
so he gave up being king of where the wild things are.
Do you know why the Max feels so lonely?
He is missing his mommy.
And he feels so hungry.
Wild things feel so hungry, too!
But the wild things cried, "Oh please don't go-
we'll eat you up-we love you so!"
And Max said, "No!"
The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth
and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws
but Max stepped into his private boat and waved good-bye
Now is he going to his home?
Yes, he is.
He is coming back his house.
He has a good choice!
and sailed back over a year
and in and out of weeks
and through a day
Dayoung, do you remember all of the month in a year?
January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August,
September, October, November and December.
You are great!
Then, do you remember all of the day in a week?
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
and into the night of his very own room
where he found his supper waiting for him
At last, He comes back.
Mommy, Max’s mom gives his supper.
Every mommy love their babies.
and it was still hot.
It takes a few minutes for his journey.
It’s a magic trick.
