Charles ·Leo＆Diane Dillon 이 책은 표지에서도 볼 수 있듯이 네모 속으로 보이는 신선한 과일들이 우선 아이의 눈길을 사로잡아요. 네모난 창을 통해 다음 페이지에 대한 궁금증을 유발시킨답니다. 각각의 페이지마다 다른 도형의 구멍 속으로 보이는 색깔과 그 색깔에 맞는 과일을 동시에 배울 수 있게 되어있어 재미를 더한답니다. 책내용이 퀴즈식이라 엄마가 활용하기도 쉽구요, 무엇보다도 같은 색깔도 연하고 진한 것 등 다양한 느낌으로 표현되어있어 아이들이 색감을 익히는데도 도움을 줄 수 있으니 활용도가 정말 엄청난 책이 아닐까 싶네요. 페이지마다 나오는 과일 그림 속에는 곤충들이 한 마리씩 등장하는데 그것도 찾아가며 가르쳐 주면 아이가 정말 재밌어 한답니다. 그럼 책내용을 살펴볼께요. 첫장을 넘기면 우선 과일들이 나옵니다. Look at this cover. Can you see this shapes? What's this? Right! This is a square and a circle. Let's turn to the next page. Look at fruits through the square. Wow, There are many fruits in the picture. Do you know what this is? Can you find an apple? Right! Hear it is. 아이가 알만한 과일 몇 가지를 질문해 보죠. 맞추면 신나하거든요. What's your favorite fruit among those? I love grapes. Me too. 자, 이제 본격적으로 들어가보죠. 질문의 문장은 최대한 간단하게 해주시는게 아이들이 집중할 수 있구 동화를 더 재밌게 읽을 수 있답니다. What color is this? Good job! This is red. What shape is this? Excellent! This is a square! This shape has four sides all just the same. Let's have a quiz. I'm red, I'm round, I fall to the ground. What am I? Nice job. This is a red and big apple. What is this on the apple tree? Terrific! This is a caterpillar. This shape looks just like a ball. It looks like it would bounce if it happened to fall. Yes, It's a circle. Look at this orange circle. Listen carefully. I'm orange, I'm sweet to drink or eat. What am I? Right! It's an orange. What's this? Good job! It's a dragonfly. A dragonfly is flying to the sky. Wow, It's yellow. It is beautiful color, isn't it? I'm yellow, I'm thin, you peel my skin. A monkey loves to eat it. What am I? Wow, It's a banana. Let's have another quiz. I'm an insect. I'm red and small. I have black spots on the wing covers. What am I? Excellent! It's a ladybug. Can you Know where the ladybug is? Nice job! Here it is. A little ladybug on a leaf. What color is this? Yes, This color is green. Suhyun, What do you see? I see a green oval. Look, An oval looks like an egg. I'm green, I'm nice to eat by the slice. What am I? Is it right? It's an avocado. 아이가 대답을 하기 힘들겠죠. 아보카도는 우리 나라에서는 보기 힘든 과일이라 아이에게 설명하기가 어렵습니다. 사전적 설명이니 엄마가 간단히 가르쳐주시구요, 이왕이면 직접 보구 먹어 볼 수 있는 기회를 한 번 가져보는게 좋겠죠. 백마디 말보다 직접 먹어보는게 확실하잖아요. 시장 볼 때두 아이들이 과일뿐만 아니라 우리가 쓰는 다양한 물건들의 이름이나 특징을 익힐 수 있는 기회로 만들어 주시면 시장 보는 것두 아이들에게 재밌는 영어놀이가 되지 않을까요. One, two, three. Yes, there're three bees. 세마리 밖에 안되지만 한마리가 그림자처럼 잘 보이지 않아 아이가 못찾을 수도 있으니 잘 찾아보세요. I'm red and yellow, blue and green, and shades of colors in between. What am I? This is a rainbow! So beautiful colors. What shape is this? This is a hexagon. It has got six sides. Turn to the next page. Wow, yummy fruits. This is an apple, an orange, a banana, an avocado, blueberries, and grapes. In places here, and foreign lands, the rainbow can be seen in hands that make the world a better place - a rainbow of the human race. 내가 살고있는 이 곳과 다른 나라에서도 우리는 세상을 아름답게 만들어 가는 손에서 무지개(다양한 피부색을 의미하겠죠)를 볼 수 있는 얘긴데, 이 마지막 장이 가장 인상 깊은 책이 아닌가 싶네요. 아이들에게 세상에는 피부색이 다른 다양한 사람들이 살고 있다는 것과, 피부색만 다를 뿐 모두가 같은 사람이란 걸 알려 주고 싶어요. 우리 나라에서도 일어나고 있는 외국인 노동자들에 대한 차별과 핍박을 볼 때면 마음이 무겁습니다. 우리 아이들이 편견 없이 남을 배려하는 아름다운 마음을 가지고 클 수 있도록 엄마들이 노력해요, 그럼 왕따 걱정도 없어지겠죠.
