[내용설명]

날으는 것 하면 우린 비행기를 연상하지요. 그래도 비행기는 하늘을 나는 것 중에 우리가 많이 접할 수 있는 거니까요. 첫발견 책은 비행기에 대한 이야기에서, 열기구, 그리고 초창기의 비행기의 모습으로 시간을 거슬러 날으는 것에 관해 소개하고 있어요. 그 다음엔 다양한 종류, 다양한 용도로 쓰이는 비행기에 관한 것과 비행기의 역사, 그리고 오늘날 레포츠로서 접할 수 있는 것도 소개하고 있어요.

하지만 다양한 종류, 다양한 모습을 하고 있는 비행기라지만 공통점을 찾을 수 있네요. 각각의 모양과 원리는 자연에서 따온 거라는 것이지요.

예를 들어 비행기의 모습을 볼까요? 머리와 날개로 이어지는 모양이 하나같이 유선형의 모양이에요. 유선형은 날으는 새의 모습이기도 하지요. 그리고 하늘을 날을 때도 그냥 붕 떠오르는 것이 아니라 어느 정도의 이륙속도가 필요하지요. 마치 새가 날개짓하면서 빠른 걸음을 걷는 것처럼 말이죠.

단 헬리콥터의 경우는 예외겠네요. 이착륙할 때도 위 아래로 이동이 가능하고, 한자리에 머물수도 있고... 하지만 헬리콥터도 똑같진 않지만 잠자리와 비슷한 부분이 있지요.

이번엔 첫발견 책에서 소개된 비행기의 모양을 보면서 그 원리까지 이야기할 수 있다면 좋겠네요.
