5월의 첫날 입니다.

중간고사가 끝난 학교가 더 많겠지요?

시험이 끝난 분들은 홀가분한 마음으로 여유로운 한 주로 보내시고

아직 시험중인 분들은 끝까지 최선을 다하시길 ^^

이번주 주제는 internet이네요.

제가 20대였을때 신문에서 인터넷이라는 것이 앞으로 세상을 바꿀것이라는 기사를 보았습니다.

정보의 바다이며 우리의 생활을 엄청나게 바꿀것이라는 내용이었지요.

그 기사를 보면서 " 사람들이 얼마나 게을러지면 쇼핑도 컴퓨터로 집에서 한다는 걸까?

라고 생각했답니다.

하긴 그때는 컴퓨터가 이렇게 까지 발전할지는 몰랐던 때 이지요.

인터넷의 발달은 카메라의 발달과도 밀접한 관계가 있는 듯 해요.

실제의 이미지를 쉽게 얻을 수 있는 환경이되면서 또 급속히 발전했던 것 같아요.

스마트폰이 대중화되면서

우리는 정보를 더 쉽게 인터넷을 통해 접하게 되지요.

궁금한 것이 있으면 기억을 더듬거나 누구에게 물어보거나 책이나 논문등을 실제로 찾아보기 보다는

쉽게 검색을 하게되지요.

아주 짧은 시간에 많은 정보를 쉽게 접할 수 있는 환경....

과연 이것은 우리에게 순기능만 있는 걸까요?

이번 주제를 읽어보면서

인터넷의 긍적적인 기능과 부정적 기능을 한번 생각해보고 글로 써보면 좋을 것 같습니다.

물론 긍정적이나 부정적이다를 반으로 나누어서 생각할 수는 없겠죠.

부정적인면을 긍정적인 부분으로 바꿀 수 있는 방법도 한번 생각해 보면 좋을듯 합니다.

And that isn't always a positive thing according to the father of the internet, Tim Berners-Lee. In a recent BBC Tech Tent programme he talked about his concerns with the internet and particularly the companies that control its information. Companies which he calls 'internet giants'. What does he say he thought these companies had to do?

Initially I felt the main thing an internet giant had to do was just to be neutral, just be a platform and humanity, once connected by technology, will do wonderful things. And clearly it doesn't work like that. If you connect humanity via Wikipedia then they do produce, in general, wonderful things. If you connect people by social network where they have anonymity, then it can bring out the very nastiest of people.

So what did he say he thought these internet giants had to do?

he thought they just had to be neutral.

they didn't need to control the internet or information.

He thought it would be a tool to connect people and ideas and information and it would be wonderful.

The different social networks and different platforms are in different situations and in some cases they have acknowledged there is an issue. I think they realise that the issue could be hugely ameliorated by tweaking the way the thing works by changing the way retweets are propagated or changing the way people get kudos - give them more kudos for being constructive for example.
