The Story of the World
Chapter 1
* How did Diocleian divided the Roman year? Explain more about it.
Diocleian divided the Roman Empire in the year 286. We call this year 'AD286' or 'CE286.' Both of those abbreviations mean that Diocleian's decision happened 286years after the birth of Jesus. 'AD' means the year of our lord. 'CE' means Christian Era. When you are reading, you will notice that some authors use AD, while others use CE. But both of these abbreviations tell you the same thing that the date comes after the birth of Jesus.
Chapter 2
* Summarize the story about the fires of the Celts was of Craith and his companions.
One day the warrior Craith was so lonely so he set off to the end of the world to rescue the woman who he want to marry.
On his way to the end of the world, he met a man who can see the end of the world so he set off with him to the end of the world.
The two of them met the man who can hear the sound of grass growing. They took him too. And the man who is so fast that he ties his one leg.
When they arrived at the end of the world, the giant said that if Craith took him the water of the other end of the world's well, he would let her go. So the fast man went and took the water.
Craith got the woman and lived happily ever after.
Chapter 3
* Write the process to make the paper in the Dark age.
In the Dark Ages, you couldn't just go to a store and buy paper. So the monks began by making special paper, called parchment, out of animal skin. They put cow or sheep skins in running water such as a stream or river, for several days. Then they soaked it again, in a barrel filled with water and lime for several days more. Finally, they would stretch out the skin, scrape the hair out with a knife, and then attach it to a frame so that it could dry. But that wasn't all. Once the skin was dried, the monks would take it off the frame, wet it again, and rub it with a rough stone. One medieval book tells us that the best way to wet the skin was to take a mouthful of beer and spit the beer all over the skin.
Chapter 4
* Choose two laws from the Code of Justinian and write them.
1. Rivers belong to every one. Everyone in my empire can fish in the rivers, without being told to stop.
2. If you find a jewel or other treasure washed up on the seashore, you can keep it for yourself.
Chapter 5
* What is monk? Explain about Indian monks.
Indian monks carved their monastery right out of the sides of cliffs. They had large caves where they met and ate together, around tables made out of stone.
The monks worked for years to build their monastery. they didn't have dynamite or explosives to carve out the caves. Instead, they put logs into the trenches and filled the trenches with water. The logs soaked up the water and began to swell. As they swelled, they pushed against the sides of the rock and cracked it into bits.
