1. Electrons consist of particles smaller than those of protons, and thus can move from atom to atom while protons cannot.
2. Static charges are used in air purifiers that eliminate dust from the air. They use static electricity to alter the changes in the dust particles so that they stick to the filter(plate) of the opposite charge. Industrial smokestacks are supposedly a bigger version of air filters. Static charges are used here as well to reduce the pollution, only in a much larger scale. Additionally, photocopy machines use static charges to make the ink get attracted to the areas where we need the information copied, and apply it to the paper. Another use of static charges are car painting. When paint is applied with a static charge, it sticks and endures better.

1. It is because the electrons are much, much lighter than the protons.

2. A photocopier copies photos by negatively charging the toner. A new car is painted by firmly sticking paint that is given an electric charge. And an electrostatic air filter runs by attracting the particles in the air. The filter has an electric charged plate inside it.

1. Well, the smallest unit of a material that still has the characteristics of that material is an atom, and an atom has two electrons, one proton and neutron. Proton is in the middle of the atom and the electrons are place in the outside part of the atom. Also, electrons are much lighter than the protons so because of that, electrons can move easlity and prtons cannot.

2. In the book, it says that static charges can be used in technology, such as photocopy machine and making cars, electrostatic air filter...etc

1. An atom is composed of electrons, protons, and neutrons. Protons are tightly bount together with neutrons to form the nucleus at the center of an atom. The electrons go around the nucleus in random directions. I think protons cannot easily move from one atom to another because they are held too tightly in the nucleus of an atom.

2. This is only my thought, and it might be outrageous, but  I think it can be used to make a magnetically levitated train. by using a very strong static charge. Also, I think we can use it for recycling. If we can make an electrostatic air filter, why not use it to classify trash?

I'm intrigued by your suggestion of using static to classify trash. (Recycle trash, perhaps?) How would you be able to do this? Just a suggestion, but I think static could also be used to pull out plastic buttons from old wool sweaters.
