1. I do not think diatoms will look like the picture of diatoms in the book when we look at it with the naked eye. When we look at something with a microscope, it means that the object we are examining is so microscopic that we need a special tool to look at it. As a result, we will not be able to see diatoms at all without a microscope.

2. When we look at something with our eye, the image of whatever we are looking at is focused on the retina. This is similar to how a camera works. The film corresponds to the retina of our eye, and thus it must be inside the camera in order to focus the image correcly.

1. A microscope is used to see things that you can't see with the naked eye. The color picture of the diatoms is a 400x of a nomal diatom. And you can't see 400x with the naked eye.

2. In a camera, an image will not be focused unless it falls exactly on the film. So the film must be inside the camera to focuse an image.

1. Well, according to the explaination beside the image of the diatoms, it says that this image is appeared 400 times of their normal size and this each sell is about 4cm, let's divide it into 400 and we get 1/100cm. Well, or 1/10mm. Um, so, we can't, no it's impossible to see such a small size so we won't know if there even are some diatoms or not.

2. Well, think flim cameras as the eye. Film does the same thing as the 'retina' of the eye, and  we already learned that the lightpasses through the clear center of the eye and strikes the retina and this contains specialized celss that respond to light.  So in conculsion, the flim makes the image focused.

1. Well, that picture is 400 times their normal size, and I think it will be almost impossible to see them and its color unless there are huge amounts of it.

2. Pictures that appear on the film comes from outside the lens. It should be in a way that only light that passes the lens from the outside could meet the film. So, film cameras are made in a way that  the inside of the camera will be dark(black), so it could not reflect light, and the covering acts like a choroid.
