The tales of derspereaux 17~20
Not long after this conversation between, Botticelli and Roscuro, a prisoner did arrived, The dungeon door slammed and the two rats watched a mand being led by a king's soldier down the stairs into the dungeon.
When Rooscur stared at the man, the door flung open and a thick and brilliant shaft of afternoon light cut into the dark of the dungeon.
Then Roscuro watched mice's whiskers at the upstair and told it to Botticelli.
However, Botticelli said "this is what you should do.
First, go and torture the prisoner. Go and take the red cloth from him. The cloth will satisfy your craving for something from that world.
But don't go uup into the light. Because you are a rat. Roscuro went, as Botticelli told him he must to torment the new prisoner and to take the red cloth from him.

Chapter 17~20
After reading chapter, answer the question below.
1. Why did the mice shouted ¡°To the dungeon¡±?
Because they thought Despereaux was guilty of sharing moments with the princess Pea, and wanted to punish him by sending him to the dungeon to live with the rats.
2. Why did the thread master ask the princess is beautiful?
Because he has heard of fairy tales, princesses, a knight, just like Despereaux. And just like Despereaux, he loved it.
3. What was the rat doing when the princess found it?
He was hanging from the chandelier. Enjoying all the light and beauty of the royal party. But the princess Pea saw the rat and shouted, ¡°A rat is hanging from the chandelier!¡±
4. Who will escort to the dungeon?
Two mice will escort Despereaux to the dungeon. To the thread master, that the entrance of the dungeon.
5. Where did the rat fall?
The rat fell, from the chandelier, in to the queen¡¯s soup bowl. And the queen died instantly.
The tale of Despereaux
In these chapters the hero of the story is not Despereaux, it is a rat, named Roscuro. And maybe he is like Despereaux, but maybe not. Because a rat is not a mouse, a rat lives in the dungeon. And a rat never saw the light.
Roscuro lives in the dungeon. He is a rat. And the chapter starts when a prisoner is brought to the dungeon. And Botticelli, another rat, tells Roscuro the prisoner is his to torture. But Roscuro does not care about Botticelli¡¯s words. His attention is still focused at the light that came through the door. Botticelli flinched away, but Roscuro is fixed to it, like Despereaux is fixed to fairytales and the princess Pea.
But Botticelli tries to make Roscuro into a true rat. He tells Roscuro to torture the prisoner. So Roscuro goes to the new prisoner and talks to him. The prisoner says he was brought to the dungeon because he stole two Jersey and four Guernsey. And long ago he sold his daughter for the red blanket that he has now, and a hen, and some cigarettes. And Roscuro steals the blanket from the prisoner.
But he soon realizes that he didn¡¯t want to torture a prisoner, he wanted to see the light again. So, he goes up the stairs and watches the royal party, with all the light and colors. But with the princess¡¯s scream, he falls.

The tale of Despereaux-chapters 17-20 2012-01-14
Roscuro and Botticelli were waiting for the new prisoner. Roscuro said he would be in charge of this new prisoner named Gregory. Roscuro required Gregory to confess his sins pretending that he was nothing but a voice in the darkness. As he confessed, Roscuro went nearby Gregory stepping on a red tablecloth. When Gregory was almost done confessing, Roscuro rapidly yanked the tablecloth. Anyway, I felt Roscuro seemed like Despereaux when he went out to see the light and saw happiness in the people. People think that these filthy animals do not have a heart but at least Roscuro had one. He had feelings like Despereaux did. He was delighted. I have a feeling that Despereaux and Roscuro will meet together and have a joyful adventure of their selves that no other rats would make.
